2017 Scholar Athlete Awards

Region 1:

Jonathan Marchineck, Hereford Bulls

A first team All-Division and All-County pick and a team captain, this two-way starter is a Top 5% student and is a member of the National Honor Society.  He scored an 800 on the Math SAT.  He also is captain of the baseball team and is the Treasurer of the Science National Honor Society.

Region 2:

Scott Dettloff, Fallston Cougers

A first team All-County and All-Conference pick, this team captain ranks number six in his class and is a member of the National Honor Society and several other honor societies.   A Wendy’s High School Heisman winner, he also plays baseball and is a member of the Varsity and Spanish Club.

Region 3:

Ryan Keller, Broadneck Bruins

The number one ranked student in his class, this team captain and second team All-County pick is a member of the National Honor Society and scored an 800 on the Math SAT.  An AP Scholar, he is the vice president of the Math Honor Society and is a member of the Student Leadership Council.

Region 4:

Spencer Kirlin, Liberty

Twice voted first team All-County and a second team All-Metro selection, this team captain ranks in the top 15%, is a member of the National Honor Society and scored an 800 on the Math SAT.  He als plays baseball, is in the school band and is a student ambassador.

Region 5:

Eric Duguay, Severn Admirals

A first team All-Conference selection and BTC All-Star, this team captain ranks in the Top 5% and scored an 800 on the Math SAT.  A member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies and a National Merit Scholar, he also is a swimmer and the Student Government President.

Regions & Schools

These scholar-athletes, representing football-playing high schools in the Baltimore metropolitan area, are selected by theirrespective schools primarily for their ability on the football field and in the classroom. Other factors taken into consideration include extracurricular activities, leadership, and community and church activities.

Every football-playing high school in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Harford, Howard, Carroll and Frederick Counties is invited to submit a nominee who best fits the aforementioned qualifications.

The Chapter’s selection committee, after careful consideration of each athlete’s qualifications, will choose one individual from our five regions, who will each receive $4,000 in scholarship support for his college education.

Region II: Aberdeen, Baltimore Polytechnic, Bel Air, C. Milton Wright, Catonsville, City College, Digital Harbor, Dulaney, Dundalk, Edgewood, Fallston, Franklin, Frederick Douglass, Harford Tech, Havre de Grace, Joppatowne, Kenwood, Lansdowne, Milford Mill, Mervo, North Harford, Parkville, Patapsco, Patterson Mill, Perry Hall, Towson, Wood- lawn
