2018 Scholar Athlete Awards

Region 1:

Joshua Wegrzyn, Hereford Bulls

A second team All-County nominee, this team captain ranks in the Top 20% and is a member of the National Honor Society. Selected to play in the County All-Star game, he also plays basketball, is a member of FCA and a eucharistic minister.

Region 2:

Mark Quesnel, Parkville Knights

This first team All-County pick was a team captain, played in the BTC All-Star game and ranks in the Top 5% of his class. He is a member of the National and Math Honor Societies, plays lacrosse, is a Junior ROTC leader and is an Eagle Scout.

James Walsh, C. Milton Wright Mustangs

A second team All-County pick and a team captain, this Top 5% ranked student is Vice President of the National Honor Society and also in the Math and Science Honor Societies. A winner of serveral ROTC awards, he also plays lacrosse, plays the cello and is an Eagle Scout.

Region 3:

Alan Gorny, Howard Lions

A first team All-County pick and Super 22 All-Star. Alan ranks number one in his class and is a member of several National Honor Societies. A National Merit Commended Scholar, he also is on the track team and member of FCA. He will play football for Johns Hopkins University this fall.

Region 4:

Bryce DeMaille, Oakdale

Selected as the Frederick County Offensive Player of the Year, this team captain ranks number one in his class and is a member of the National, Science and Math Honor Societies. A standout wrestler, he also is a member of the track team, FCA and the student government. He will play football for Deleware this fall.

Region 5:

Thomas Booker, Gilman Greyhounds

Twice voted first team All-State and All-Metro, this top ranked student is also a member of the National Honor Society. He also plays basketball, is on the indoor and outdoor track teams, writes for the school newspaper and is Vice President of the Senior Class. He will play football for Stanford this fall.

 

Regions & Schools

These scholar-athletes, representing football-playing high schools in the Baltimore metropolitan area, are selected by theirrespective schools primarily for their ability on the football field and in the classroom. Other factors taken into consideration include extracurricular activities, leadership, and community and church activities.

Every football-playing high school in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Harford, Howard, Carroll and Frederick Counties is invited to submit a nominee who best fits the aforementioned qualifications.

The Chapter’s selection committee, after careful consideration of each athlete’s qualifications, will choose one individual from our five regions, who will each receive $4,000 in scholarship support for his college education.
