2023 Scholar Athlete Awards

These scholar-athletes, representing football-playing high schools in the Baltimore metropolitan area, are selected by their respective schools primarily for their ability on the football field and in the classroom. Other factors taken into consideration include extracurricular activities, leadership, and community and church activities.

Every football-playing high school in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Harford, Howard, Carroll and Frederick Counties is invited to submit a nominee who best fits the aforementioned qualifications.

The Chapter’s selection committee, after careful consideration of each athlete’s qualifications, will choose one individual from our five regions, who will each receive $4,000 in scholarship support for his college education.

Winners were announced at the banquet on March 15, 2023.

Region 1

Grady Moran - Hereford

He is ranked 1st in his Class and has been the Class President since freshman year.  This 2nd team All County player was a team captain, a two way starter and the kicker for the Bulls.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.  He is a varsity baseball captain, a varsity wrestler, a Maryland State Seal of Biliteracy winner, a member of the Sons of American Legion and a volunteer youth football coach.   

Region 2

Sean (Pup) Williams, Jr. - Milford Mill

Named The Baltimore Sun Player of the Year and Baltimore County Player of the Year.  This team captain helped led the Millers to a Maryland State Championship in December.  He was also named 1st team All Metro, 1st team MPSSAA All State, 1st team All County, played in the Baltimore Touchdown Club game and the Maryland Crab Bowl.  He is ranked in the Top 10% of his class, is a member of the National Honor Society, plays varsity baseball and will continue his football career at the University of Pennsylvania.   

Region 3

Alan Zhao - Marriotts Ridge High

This valuable special teamer was named Baltimore Sun 1st team All Metro Kicker, Sports Majors Baltimore Area Special Teams Player of the Year, 1st team All County and 2nd team MPSSAA All State.  He is ranked in the Top 5% of his Class, is a member of the National Honor Society, is President of Student Gov't Association and recently completed the Trinity piano exam.  He will be attending Cornell.  

Region 4

Sam Evans - Liberty

This team captain was named 1st team MPSSAA All State as a WR, 1st team All County, a Super 22 and played in the Baltimore Touchdown Club game.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and is ranked in the Top 10% of his class.  He is a Lion Award Winner, is active in his Church Ministry and has several offers to continue his football career in college.

Region 5

Wyatt Cotton, St. Mary’s

This team captain was named to the Baltimore Sun All Metro 2nd team as a RB.  He was also named All County and All MIAA B Conference.  He is ranked in the Top 5% of his class, is a member of the National Honor Society, plays lacrosse, ice hockey and does track.  He is the Founder of the Youth Outreach Committee and plans to play college football.
